Analysis of CD Cover '19' By Adele

'19' is Adele's first album and it has been a huge success. The CD Cover is very simple yet still stands out and comes across and quite powerful, this is also demonstrated in her music. The album cover clearly focuses on Adele's face as the background is black to ensure that you focus on Adele and nothing else in the image. In the photo Adele is looking down and appears to be sad, this reflects a lot of her songs, which are about love she has lost or is stuck on. The image of her looks very natural and is a simple shot yet projects a strong image. With the black background and dark colours covering her face, it creates a slightly sombre feel and as those something is being hidden. However it is also a very effective picture which is very stylish and sophisticated.
With a black background Adele's name and the title of her album is written in white to ensure it stands out. 'Adele' is written in capitals as the picture is not obvious at a first glance who it is so the name stands out so the audience instantly know who it is. The title of the album '19' is written as though someone hand write it to make the album more personal and not so sophisticated.
The audience for this album would me females between 17-40, due to the genre of the music it is able to appeal to any female of any age.

Analysis of CD Cover 'Year of the Gentleman' By Ne-Yo

The album 'Year of the Gentleman' is a recent very successful album all around the world. From the title and image of the CD cover it is very clear what style and look Ne-Yo was aiming for. Ne-Yo has brought out music before and was renowned for being younger and a new established artist. With the 'Year of the Gentlemen' being his second album he is clearly trying to create a very different image. It is clear that Ne-Yo wishes to show that he is no longer a new young artist, but is now a gentleman. From the title it shows that through this album he has become a gentleman to gain an older and more professional and stylish image. Through this album title he is making a statement that this is the year that he is becoming a gentleman, with his new album and image.
The image on the cover strongly supports the title of the cover, through his clothing and pose for the camera. Ne-Yo's clothing is extremely sophisticated and suggests that he is very wealthy. The outfit is something a gentleman would wear and not a teenager, to show that clear change between his images. With the hat it adds extra style and sophistication to the outfit. The hat is slightly over the face to make it appear as though he is putting the hat on and not posing for the photo being taken. This makes it appear that he isn't just dressing in this outfit for the camera, but this is him naturally. Even though you can't see much of the background, simply from the doors and wall it instantly demonstrates wealth to support his image.
The writing on the album is also very sophisticated and stylish, especially the title of the album, 'The Year of the Gentleman'. The artist's name 'Ne-Yo' is in big bold letters to ensure that the buyer instantly notices the well known name and is attracted to the album before they have even looked at the image or songs, simply because it is Ne-Yo's album. The target audience of the album is mixed both male and females between 15-22. Though I would say that females would be more attracted to the album as Ne-Yo it made to look very attractive. Also the hat is placed on the face as a teaser for the buyer to look inside to see more of him.
Analysis of CD Cover 'Rockferry' by Duffy

Rockferry is Duffy's first album and has been a huge success in the UK. Duffy's music has an indie style to it and this is clearly reflected on the CD cover. The cover is in black and white to give it a slight old fashioned look, as her style of music could be compared to older singers. The clothing and old fashioned train in the background also shows that Duffy is going for a more old fashioned style to her album. Having black and white also makes the album appear more chic and sophisticated. Her hair appears to be quite natural and she clearly isn't trying to look glamorous. Her make-up is fairly simple despite the eyes which stand out as the album is in black and white. On the cover Duffy is looking down with her hand placed on her coat. From this it is clear that she is trying to create a natural image and is not posing for the camera. The picture appears as though Duffy has just got off the train and is walking along looking sombre. The picture makes Duffy look very attractive and also could make you sympathise for her. The meaning of the picture is also shown via the title of the album, 'Rockferry'. Not only is the album called 'Rockferry', but also is a song in the album. The song on the album is about Duffy getting on a train and moving to Rockferry to get away from her former partner. The song is clearly illustrated on the CD cover, even the emotion is conveyed. Not only does it illustrate the song 'Rockferry', but also gives you a taster for what a lot of the music on her album is going to be like. The writing on the album is in white to match the picture on the album, however the writing still stands out as the colours in the picture are quite dark. At the top on the left hand corner 'Duffy' is written, the writing appears as though it has been handwritten and Duffy has signed the album herself, to make it more personal. Duffy is also at the top so that in shops buyers will instantly see Duffy at the top and now it is her CD. The title of the album is at the bottom of the CD cover. The writing does not appear to stand out as much as Duffy does as the top due to her coat, but the writing is in bold letters to make it stand out more. Even though the album is very simple it still catches your eye and gets you interested into the album even if you are not aware of who Duffy is. Through Duffy's emotion and her surroundings it instantly tells the audience that mainly women between 16-40 would be interested in the album, as due to the music and style it is able to appeal to a wide audience.
